organically affordable & comfy

as most would agree, organic is ideal when it comes to food & fabric, but it often comes with a spendy price tag that even the most eco-minded yogis may shy away from in hopes of stretching dollars these days. so, i was elated to find this glorious sale going on at under the canopy, a cyber boutique specializing in style conscious apparel using sustainable and organic fibers while focusing on "human first" working conditions.

deal: [refer to outfit in picture] although i am not likely to wear this 3-piece set altogether, which is equipped with a tunic-length jersey knit top, roll waist pant & a eco-velvet eyemask, the trio is a steal at just $23.99 (orig. $78.00) & shipping is reasonable (about $7 to nyc)!

enjoy the sunshine - but use protection

whether you are taking your asana outside this extended holiday weekend or attending a friendly gathering at the beach, bbq or both, one thing i hope no one is without - is sunscreen!

here are some of my fave picks of natural options that are great for even sensitive skin:

soleo organics sunscreen - this aussie brand is all-natural, organically produced - so no need to worry about dangerous chemicals or synthetic perservatives! ($30.00 for 2.6 oz)

little twig 30 spf+ mineral sunscreen - organically formulated for the kiddies, this sunscreen is great for all ages! it's also paraben & mineral oil free, so it absorbs quickly & safely into the skin without any greasiness. ($20.99 for 2.9 oz)

now go enjoy the sunshine!

happy memorial day weekend!

sadie nardini, the practical yogini

sadie nardini, founder of core strength vinyassa yoga and co-owner of the fierce club in nyc (and my teacher, so yes of course i may be biased), makes yoga not only relative to the modern world, but also accessible.

my top 5 reasons to check out sadie & core strength vinyasa yoga:

  1. youtube queen [read: free yoga] - i especially enjoy yoga for the face and the bon jovi mantra, but bootyasana is also an obvious fave for the season.

  2. firecely free - get your first class at the fierce club free - now that is big savings for the big apple.

  3. power hour in your living room - a top 10 dvd on amazon, sadie now offers 2 dvds for at-home centering, strength-building, heart-pumping asana sequences.

  4. budget-savvy certification - sadie knows how to pack in the calorie-burning fest while finding center in just an hour class & she offers an amazing 9-day intensive training to teach you how (you can also do the training at home for half the price)!

  5. yoga for winos - the best of both worlds - sadie is hosting a wine & yoga retreat in tuscany this june! sadie will help you detox so you can retox daily [read: live it up on vacay sans the hangover], all the while enjoying ITALY! what's not to love?

pure hydration without the price

in hopes of staying hydrated (& within budget) these warm-to-hot days, i was excited to find my new water bottle from one of my fave discount, good-for-you sites: www.luckyvitamin.com.

the 20 oz bottle is made from the safe kind of plastic & has a built in filter that only costs about $3 to replace every 2-3 months.

you don't even have to do the math - they do it for you:
"The Fit & Fresh LivPURE™ Filtered Water Bottle can save the average bottled water drinker more than $500 per year (using an average price of $1 per bottle). LivPURE™ filters have been certified to be effective to 75 gallons, an amount equal to 500 bottles of water."

so instead of worrying about the taste of different tap waters or filling your bottle with water cooler water - you can purify on-the-go with this bottle that will only cost you about 10 days worth of bottled water. and in case that doesn't sell you on LivPURE - think of all those empty bottles that you won't send off to the landfill.

flippity floppity feelgoodz

it's official, spring really is here - flip flops have officially been incorporated into the wardrobe (without the risk of chilly toes)!

while on the big island (yes, hawaii!!) in march, i stumbled upon yoganics hawaii, an eco-conscious, very chill, boutique and yoga studio run by a hubby/wifey team that transplanted their seeds from appleton, wi to the warm and sunny kona.

after perusing the bamboo and organic clothing, i came upon a rainbow of flip flops. so i immediately had to try on this earth-friendly foot candy.

squishy, rubbery bliss was immediately added to my carry-on.

feelgoodz are made from
100% bio-degardeable grade a rubber that is form poured, rather than stamped [read: NO waste]. consider them the 'green' version of the beloved havaianas or reefs.

finally, today i put these puppies to the test as i checked out this season's first brooklyn flea and then hustled to my yoga class. no blisters or discomfort [read: a++]

feelgoodz have their own website, or if you'd like to make a cyber trip to hawaii, simply visit yoganics hawaii.

taxes? yoga to the rescue

did that one little word just cause you some anxiety?
sorry about that...

now, practice your deep pranayama breathing and read how yoga can help:

think ahead, donate to these non-profs where the funds that you can deduct for 2009 will be much appreciated.

excited about your tax refund? support a yogi & make a statement with the 'yoga is my bailout' tee (did i mention that it is now on sale for $18? well, it is.)

bummed you're not getting that refund this year? budget your asana. (a guest blog by yours trully.)

yoga is serious business

yes, i dedicate great focus to my practice & my yoga studies, but i also have a background in marketing - i like to consider myself the business yogi. so i was just so thrilled to stumble upon this ingenious business yoga card - LOVE.

(it's no secret that i adore mini b-cards)

any crafty yogis out there? please share your thoughts on how to diy this card!
